Hyundai Getz and Accent timing belt kits: belt or chain, and which kit fits

Hyundai Getz and Accent timing belt kits: belt or chain, and which kit fits

The Hyundai Getz 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 (TB, September 2002 to August 2011) runs a timing belt, and it shares a kit with the 2000 to 2010 Accent 1.5 and 1.6: our Getz and Accent timing belt kit, or the timing belt and water pump kit if the pump is being replaced too.

Find your engine code in the table. If it's there, the choice left is whether you want the water pump kit, which isn't listed for the Kia Rio or the 73 kW Excel and fits one pump version only.

Source: our product listings (titles and "Fits" lists) for the Getz and Accent timing belt kit and the timing belt and water pump kit, read 30 September 2026. Every engine is listed as a 4 cylinder, 16 valve DOHC.

Both kits list the same Hyundai engines, so the choice is the water pump

Our two listings name the same Getz, Accent and Excel engines (the pump kit lists the Excel from January 1998, 74 kW only). What separates our two kits is what comes in the box:

  • The Getz and Accent timing belt kit has bearings, high-temperature seals and a belt. It does not include a hydraulic tensioner. It's also the only one of the two that lists the Kia Rio JB.
  • The timing belt and water pump kit has the same kind of parts plus a GMB water pump. The listing limits that pump to the version with a "14mm high alternator mounting post and round hub ONLY".

So check the pump on the engine before you order the pump kit. If its alternator mounting post isn't 14 mm high, or its hub isn't round, that pump isn't a match: buy the belt kit and ask us about the pump.

What our listings don't cover

  • Getz 1.3. Neither timing kit lists it. Our Getz wheel bearing listing names its engine as the G4EA, a 12 valve SOHC.
  • Accent RB (late 2010 to 2019). Our wheel bearing listing gives its engines as G4LC, G4FC, G4FD and the D4FB diesel. None of our timing belt kits lists them.

Does a Hyundai Getz have a timing belt or a chain?

The Getz 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 in the table have a timing belt: the G4EC, G4ED and G4EE engines are what our timing belt kits are listed for. The same goes for the LC and MC Accent (G4EC and G4ED) and the Excel X3 1.5 DOHC (G4FK).

For an RB Accent (late 2010 to 2019, which includes 2016 and 2017 cars), we can't answer from our listings, because no timing belt kit we sell names those engines. Ask a Hyundai dealer with your VIN.

When should the timing belt be changed?

Use the interval in the maintenance schedule of your owner's manual. We haven't been able to check Hyundai's own schedule for the Getz or these Accents, so we don't quote a figure.

We also haven't found a current Hyundai or belt maker document that says which of these engines are interference engines (where a broken belt lets the valves hit the pistons), so we don't state it.

Get a mechanic to fit the kit unless you have Hyundai's workshop manual and the tools it calls for. Both listings say the parts "should be fitted by a professional and fitted to vehicle specifications".

How to choose the right kit

  1. Find your engine code (G4EC, G4ED, G4EE or G4FK). If you don't know it, send us your VIN or registration and we'll confirm it.
  2. Find the row with your model and build month in the table.
  3. Decide whether the water pump is being replaced.
  4. If it is, check the old pump for a 14 mm high alternator mounting post and a round hub. If both match, pick the pump kit. If not, or if your car isn't in the table, ask us before you order.

Questions people also ask

How much does a Hyundai Getz timing belt replacement cost?

We can't quote workshop labour. The price of each kit is on its listing, and a workshop can quote the fitting.

Does the Getz timing belt kit include a tensioner?

It doesn't include a hydraulic tensioner. The listing says it has bearings, high-temperature seals and a belt, but doesn't say which pulleys the bearings are for, so ask us before you order if you need a tensioner.

Can I buy the Getz water pump on its own?

Not from us. The pump only comes in the timing belt and water pump kit, and it's the 14 mm high alternator post, round hub version.

Does a 2016 Hyundai Accent have a timing belt or chain?

Our listings can't tell you. The 2016 Accent is an RB, and none of our timing belt kits lists its engines, so ask a Hyundai dealer with your VIN.

What front wheel bearing does a Getz take?

Our front wheel bearing for the Accent, Getz and Kia Rio lists Getz 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 builds: the 1.4 up to December 2010 and the 1.6 up to June 2009, so check your build date against the listing. The listing gives it as 38 mm ID x 70 mm OD x 37 mm wide, for the left or right front wheel.
