A mower belt listed as "1/2 x 95" is a 13 mm (1/2") wide A-section belt with a 95-inch outside length. That makes it an A93: 93 inches inside, 95 inches outside. We sell it as A93 in our A-section V-belt range or as the Kevlar A93K (AK93).
That's the whole trick: take 2 inches off any "1/2 x" A-belt length to get the A size. Check the top width first, then use the table below.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| 1/2" top width | 13 mm wide. That's an A-section belt (a US 4L belt is the same 13 mm wide, 8 mm deep) |
| The A number (A93) | Inside length in inches |
| Outside length of an A belt | A number plus 2 inches (A93 = 95" outside) |
| A US 4L number (4L950) | Outside length in tenths of an inch (4L950 = 95.0" outside) |
| "1/2 x 95" | A93, or A93K / AK93 for the Kevlar version |

Why "1/2 x 95" is an A93, not an A95
Most US listings we checked on eBay, Amazon and Walmart describe a mower belt by its top width and its outside length. A-section belts are numbered by their inside length. On an A-section belt the gap between the two is 2 inches, which is why you subtract 2" from the outside length to get the A number.
The common wrong buy is an A95 for a "1/2 x 95" listing. That belt is 97 inches outside, 2 inches too long.
Our A and AK product pages show each size's inside and outside figures. For the sizes around this one:
- A93: 93" IC · 95" OC · 13 mm Top Width
- A94: 94" IC · 96" OC · 13 mm Top Width
- A95: 95" IC · 97" OC · 13 mm Top Width
IC means inside circumference and OC means outside circumference. If the OC figure matches the number in the listing, you've got the right belt.
One catch: some makers quote a datum (or pitch) length instead. That sits between the inside and outside lengths. An A93 is 2400 mm datum and 2415 mm outside, while 93 inches inside is about 2362 mm. If a listing says "datum" or "pitch", don't subtract a full 2 inches from it. "Effective length" is different again: in the belt maker's tables we checked, it tracks the outside length, so treat it like an outside length and check the result against the mower maker's part number.
How to convert a "1/2 x" listing to an A size
- Measure the old belt's top width across the flat top with a steel rule or vernier. 13 mm (1/2") with a single V shape is an A section, so keep going. If the belt is V-shaped on both faces (a hexagonal or double-V belt), it's an AA belt, not an A, and this conversion doesn't apply. If it's wider, about 17 mm (US listings call it 5/8"), it's a B-section belt, which we also sell. B belts are numbered by inside length too, but their outside is about 3 inches longer, so take 3 inches off instead of 2: a "5/8 x 100" listing is a B97. See the B-section V-belt collection.
- Check the listing gives outside length. If it says datum or pitch length, see the catch above.
- Take 2 inches off. 95 minus 2 is 93, so you want an A93.
- Check the product page. The OC figure for the size you pick should match the listing's length.
- Match the construction. If the old belt was Kevlar, buy the Kevlar version (the K sizes). A Kevlar belt can also replace a standard belt of the same size, but not the other way round. Most mower deck belts are Kevlar, and a standard belt in a Kevlar job won't last: see Do I need a Kevlar mower belt?
- Half sizes. A listing like "1/2 x 96.5" works out to A94.5, between two sizes, because aftermarket belts come in 1-inch steps. Choose by the adjustment on your mower. If there's little adjustment left at the tight end, pick the larger belt (A95). If there's little left at the loose end, pick the smaller one (A94). If you're not sure, check the mower maker's part number first.

Which Bearings Express belt fits
- Pick the A-section standard V-belt range (A80 to A154) if your old belt is a plain A belt. It covers every size in the table above, A88 to A103.
- Pick the A80K to A158K / AK80 to AK158 Kevlar range if your old belt was Kevlar. It also covers AK88 to AK103.
- Pick the A93K Kevlar V-belt (AK93) if your listing says "1/2 x 95" and the old belt was Kevlar.
- Pick the A94 V-belt if your listing says "1/2 x 96" and the old belt was a standard belt.
- Pick the A103K Kevlar V-belt (AK103) if your listing says "1/2 x 105" and the old belt was Kevlar.
For shorter or longer lengths, every size we carry is in the A-section V-belt collection.
Questions people also ask
How is a lawn mower belt measured?
By top width, then length. The width across the flat top tells you the section (13 mm is an A). Then check whether your length is inside (A numbers) or outside (US "1/2 x" listings and 4L numbers).
Are V-belts measured inside or outside in inches?
It depends on the system. A-section numbers are inside lengths (an A93 is 93 inches inside, 95 outside). US 4L numbers are outside lengths in tenths of an inch (a 4L950 is 95.0 inches outside).
Is a 4L belt the same as an A belt?
They share the same 13 mm top width and 8 mm depth, but they're numbered from different edges. Belt makers sell 4L belts as light-duty belts.
What does the K mean on an A93K belt?
On our belts it means the belt is made with Kevlar. A93K and AK93 are two ways of writing the same belt: some suppliers put the K first (AK93), others at the end (A93K), and our product title uses both. Aramid (Kevlar) cords have higher tensile strength and handle heavier shock loads than standard polyester cords.
What about a "5/8 x 90" mower belt?
That's a B-section belt, about 17 mm wide (US listings round it to 5/8"). B belts are numbered by inside length like A belts, but take 3 inches off instead of 2, so a "5/8 x 90" is a B87. Check the old belt's top width first, then pick from our B-section V-belts.
