Bearings Express sells three GU Patrol swivel hub kits, and one kit does the whole vehicle: pn440 has the kingpin and spindle bearings, knuckle, axle and hub seals and the axle washer, but no wheel bearings. pn347 is the same kit plus wheel bearings, and pn441 is seals and washer only.
If you already know whether your wheel bearings need replacing, that's all you need to choose. The table shows exactly what is in each.

On paper, pn347 is pn440 plus wheel bearings
Read the three "Kit includes" lists side by side and the kits turn out to be one kit at three levels. pn440 and pn347 list the same swivel parts word for word: knuckle (king pin) bearings, spindle bearings, separate knuckle bearing seals, knuckle wipe seals, axle seals, hub seals and the axle washer. pn347 adds one line, wheel bearings. pn441 keeps the four seal and washer lines and drops every bearing and the separate knuckle bearing seals.
So decide before you order whether the wheel bearings are going back in. If they're rough, noisy or you don't know their history, pick pn347 and do the lot at once. If they were replaced recently and are still smooth, pn440 saves you buying bearings you don't need.
pn441 suits a narrower job: the swivel is leaking but the kingpin and spindle bearings are known to be good. Owners on the Patrol4x4 forum often trace a leaking swivel to a worn inner axle seal letting diff oil into the housing. Some also point to worn kingpin bearings letting the axle move. That's forum experience, not a manufacturer statement. If you can't rule the bearings out, the full kit is the safer buy.
Our supplier confirms the bearings in pn347 and pn440 are now all ITJ, made in Japan. The full repair kit (pn347) also comes with kingpin shims (the thin metal rings in its photo) and lock washer tabs, but no gaskets. And there's only one front end to match: GU Patrols came with coil springs at the front, with no leaf spring version, so these kits suit every GU on their fit list.
How to tell your GU swivel hubs need a rebuild
- Look for grease or oil leaking from the swivel. It's the sign owners on the Patrol4x4 forum report most (see above).
- Note any wander or wobble. Patrol4x4 forum threads link steering wander and wobble to worn or incorrectly shimmed kingpin bearings. The same threads also blame worn caster and panhard bushes for wobble, so treat it as a reason to have the front end checked, not as a diagnosis.
Before you start the job
- Get the Nissan workshop manual for your GU. Preload, shim and torque figures come from it. We don't publish them here.
- Plan the grease and oil. Have the grease and diff oil grades your workshop manual gives ready before you start.
- Decide on the wheel bearings before you order, because the hub comes off either way (see above).
- Book a mechanic if you don't have the manual and the tools. This is steering and wheel-bearing work. Every one of these kit descriptions says the parts "should be fitted by a professional and fitted to vehicle specifications", and we agree.
Which Bearings Express kit fits
- Pick pn347, the swivel hub and wheel bearing repair kit if the wheel bearings are worn or their age is unknown. It has everything in pn440 plus the wheel bearings.
- Pick pn440, the swivel hub kit for a full swivel rebuild when the wheel bearings are recent and only need repacking.
- Pick pn441, the swivel hub seal kit when the swivel only leaks and you know the kingpin and spindle bearings are good.
Got a GQ? The GQ Y60 (and Ford Maverick DA) uses different kits: pn373 with wheel bearings, pn374 swivel repair kit and pn375 seal kit. More swivel and hub kits are in wheel bearing kits and hub units.
Questions people also ask
How many swivel hub kits do I need for a GU Patrol?
One. All three Bearings Express GU kit descriptions say "Only 1 kit required per vehicle".
Does the GU swivel hub kit include wheel bearings?
Only pn347 does. pn440 has the kingpin and spindle bearings but no wheel bearings, and pn441 has no bearings at all.
Does the GU swivel hub kit include shims?
Yes for the full repair kit: our supplier confirms pn347 comes with kingpin shims and lock washer tabs. Gaskets aren't included.
What is the preload on GU Patrol swivel hubs?
It's set with shims to the figure in the Nissan workshop manual, and we don't quote it here. Figures posted on forums vary, so use the manual or have a mechanic do it.
How do I tell if a swivel hub is bad?
Grease or oil leaking from the swivel is the sign owners report most, and forum owners also link steering wander to worn kingpin bearings. Have the front end checked to confirm it.
